Backpacking in Fiji

AT this point you've probably heard all about Australia's gorgeous climate, natural wonders, fascinating wildlife and gorgeous women. You probably think there's nothing else that we could talk about that would further boost your admiration for this land. Well, you're wrong because in addition to all of that, Australia also has the beautiful Fiji Islands right on its north coast. THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE FIJI IS NOW!!!! - IT'S NEVER BEEN CHEAPER ...... the worldwide recession has caused backpackers accommodation providers in Fiji to feel the ‘pinch' so to try and increase their visitors there are some mind blowingly cheap deals out there; even the high flyers Air Pacific and Virgin Blue are offering up to 40% off flights departing Australia, which means a 2 weeks side trip to Fiji will NOT break the bank!!! Add this information to the recent 20% devaluation of the Fiji dollar and you'll be laughing all the way to the airport!!! - in real terms a Fiji Beer now costs $2.50 AUD so what are you waiting for check out www.fiji-backpacking.com for HOT DEALS.

There are over 300 hundred islands that make up Fiji and to visit them all is damn near impossible. The largest island in the mix is Viti Levu which literally translates to ‘Great Land'. Almost all tourists to this area start here, but most will end up in Nadi. Even though this is only the third largest city on the islands, it remains a great tourist hub because it's a great base that gives easy access to all of the isles. You will find most of the day trips depart right from the port here, including the most popular ones to Mamanucas and Yasawas. With so many fine-looking beaches at both of these islands it's tough to spend just a single day at either of them. This is not to say that there aren't great things to do in Nadi as well. If you're feeling guilty about enjoying all of this beauty while relaxing on the beach all day, then stop it. But if you are looking for something a bit more cultural then you may want to visit the Hindu Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple that's here. Visitors are always welcome, but be mindful of the customs and don't take the mickey you ignorant fool. For all of the romantics reading this (all three of you), there is also the wonderful Sleeping Giant mountain range. This area has a great garden at its foothills and is perfect for taking your loved one on a romantic picnic. But if you don't have that significant other, you can still go along to remind yourself that no one has sucked the life out of you yet.

Backpacking Fiji - The Islands

Suva is the capital of the islands and is only a four hour drive from Nadi. One of the things we liked about this place is that it's incredibly laid-back for a capital city. It's amazing to see people actually smile in a city and that alone is worth the visit. Although Suva is hardly comparable to Sydney or Melbourne (for better or worse),

1) A CAPITAL IDEA

IT WOULD be just plain rude to come all the way to this country and not visit its capital wouldn't it? Of course it would be! Fortunately Fiji's capital, Suva, is much nicer than Australia's and is well worth checking out. It boasts plenty to do, whether you want to be cultural (sightseeing) or primitive (getting lashed in a bar).
